Detect easily environmentally friendly and healthy products with these apps.

As consumers become more environmentally conscious and value sustainable products, companies sensed a new potential to market their offers and increase their sales. Hence, greenwashing becomes a growing issue. Several companies exploit the unawareness of some consumers and use different marketing tricks to make their products look more environmentally friendly, when in reality this is not really the case.
Of course, the best solution to this problem before purchasing products and making use of services would be to extensively research about companies, labels, certificates, sustainability vocabulary used in business, the sourcing of ingredients used in products and so on, but let’s be honest- who nowadays has the time and energy for this? Exactly, no one. However, there are some smart apps that can help you detangle the allegedly sustainable products mess, detect the frauds and find the ones that really make an effort to be more sustainable.
This app primarily gives you insights into several health factors of different food and cosmetic products. Especially, if you are vegan or vegetarian it can be very helpful to easily detect suitable products for your diet requirements. However, the app can also be useful to lead a sustainable lifestyle by searching products, for example, for environmentally harming microplastics. If you occur a certain product that is not suitable for your values and needs, then the app equally gives you different alternatives that might be more suitable for your preferred lifestyle.
Similar to the concept of CodeCheck is also Yuka. By scanning your food or personal care items, the app gives you an easy understandable overall rate of the quality of the product and if you need more detail, breaks down the components and aspects the product might be lacking in. In case you are clueless about suitable alternatives, Yuka equally lends you a helping hand and gives you options to choose from.
If the above-mentioned apps are not speaking to you, you could also try out EWG’s Healthy Living App. They follow the same concept as the previously mentioned apps, and scientifically investigate and rate products on their quality, sustainability, and effect on the health on a scale from 1-10.
Unfortunately, this app currently is only available in Ireland, more specifically in the Trinity College Dublin Area, but it has a great concept which is worth mentioning in this blog post. You cannot only scan products and see their environmental efforts, but you could also search for sustainable alternatives of your wanted products and locate them in nearby supermarkets. Next to that, the app provides educational content by talking about topics surrounding the climate crisis and sustainable living.
